Setting up personalized response messages to subscriber actions

Effective email marketing is more than just interesting and good-looking campaigns. It encompasses all communication with the recipient, including messages that he or she receives when subscribing to your newsletter and even when an incorrect email address is given when registering.

Personalize or not?

There are two kinds of communication you can use in your communication with your recipients. The first is to use of messages generated automatically by FreshMail. Your recipients will get reactions to all of their clicks on links with standardized messages.

However, if you want these messages to have a different design or, for example, contain your company’s logo then you can of course edit them. After entering the specific list of recipients on your account, on the left you will find the 'Sign-up form'. When you expand it, click on 'Confirmation pages'.

If you have not changed the settings of these options before, then the 'default pages' will be active. Using the feature, you can slightly change the appearance of automatic messages, add your logo to them or change the background. This is where you can see what content the messages have:

If you use the default messages, you can change their content to a limited extent. If, however, you want to completely change the text, FreshMail gives you the option to do that too. This involves placing the messages on your website and redirecting customers there by using the 'Personal Pages' option, which is right next to the 'Default pages' tab.

By using this feature, you can thank the recipient for signing up your newsletter and, at the same time, give him information about special offers or some other promotion. You can also manage the layout of the reply messages so they remain consistent with the design and colors of your brand. Sometimes getting a well-composed message after clicking on the resignation link can cause a recipient to think twice before they opt-out of your newsletter.

Messages are assigned to a specific contact list, so by using the "Custom Pages" you can easily target different groups and adapt to their preferences (e.g. language).

Setting your own Personal pages

When you click on the "Personal pages" option located in the "Confirmation pages", you'll see a complete list of recipient actions for which you can create individual messages on your website.

How to prepare a website

Let’s say that your site is http://my_web_page.com, and messages will be placed in the  http://my_web_page.com/messages tab All you have to do is to assign a given sub-specific ID from the above list, labeled as "msg_id". For example, the sub-address to click on the link resignation will be as follows: http://my_web_page.com/messages/5.

Integrating the website with FreshMail

You can integrate messages on your website in two ways. The first one is to place a summary messages link at the top of the screen. Simply type the website address in the following form: http://my_web_page.com/messages/$$msg_id$$

Thanks to the personalization tagTagZnacznik stosowany do klasyfikowania fragmentów tekstu. Pozwala na grupowanie odnośników (linków), umożliwia tworzenie grup na podstawie m.in. kliknięć linków oznaczonych za pomocą tagów. $$msg_id$$ you don’t need to place individual addresses for each specific action, because complete information is contained in the summary link and will automatically redirect to a sub-page. What's more, if you change anything on the website, your notifications will be updated without the need for any changes in FreshMail.

The second option - instead of using a summary link, is to assign particular addresses individually to each specific recipient action - you don’t need then to assign a specific sub-page ID, simply insert a URL address into the appropriate place in the "Single Links". And you will achieve the same effect as using a summary link. Simple, isn’t it?

Staying personal with your recipient

You can personalize the default messages by using personalization tags. Activation and welcome messages can be edited to suit your needs by both changing the graphics and content. You can also insert the recipient's name in the title of the email. To do this, organize the name data (you can collect this by asking the recipient's first name when he/she signs up to your newsletter), then put it in the “name” custom field. You can read more about custom fields in this article on our website: Using custom fields for your advantage

In chosen Contact List -> Sign-up form ->  Confirmation messages you can personalize the subject of activation emails by writing content in the subject line using a personalization tag, for example: "Hi $$name$$ - welcome to our newsletter." Tag $$name$$ will automatically change and will be filled with the name of each recipient from the appropriate custom field.

Additionally you can use personalization on your sub-pages. Your recipient will feel unique when on your website he will be greeted with his own name.

Special effects

Such nominal personalization can be also prepared for your subpage. All you really need is one line of code written by the programmer, in order to get the desired effect. The customer will definitely feel like treated individually, when he will see the message, such as: ‘Hello Matt’.
